ChatGPT can now search the web in a much better way than before. You can get fast, timely answers with links to relevant web sources, which you would have previously needed to go to a search engine for. This blends the benefits of a natural language interface with the value of up-to-date sports scores, news, stock quotes, and more.
ChatGPT will choose to search the web based on what you ask, or you can manually choose to search by clicking the web search icon.
Getting useful answers on the web can take a lot of effort. It often requires multiple searches and digging through links to find quality sources and the right information for you.
Now, chat can get you to a better answer: Ask a question in a more natural, conversational way, and ChatGPT can choose to respond with information from the web. Go deeper with follow-up questions, and ChatGPT will consider the full context of your chat to get a better answer for you.
“AI search is going to become one of the key ways that people navigate the internet, and it's crucial, in these early days, that the technology is built in a way that values, respects, and protects journalism and publishers. We look forward to partnering with OpenAI in the process, and creating a new way for readers to discover The Atlantic.”
Nicholas Thompson, CEO of The Atlantic
In theory, the notion of an AI-powered tool that can answer simple question would surely undermine the future of Google. We certainly think that Chat GPT has the potential to take a chunk of Google’s knowledge seekers, however, Google is more than just answers. It’s a day planning tool, a guide that helps you get from A to B, an impartial space for journalism, the largest hub of e-commerce – and much more.
In our estimation, Chat GPT has the potential to take some market share from the search engines, but at this stage, the functionality and use cases for Chat GPT and Google are quite different.
In reality, we think the biggest users of Chat GPT will be university students and marketers who use the AI platform as a content research tool.
Invariably, there will be a handful of students and marketers who use the AI technology as a replacement for writing. But take it from us, universities will quickly (if not already) be using GPT detection technology to weed out this practice. As for marketers......Time will tell
